Janet R. Stearns
Janet Stearns concentrates her legal practice in the area of affordable housing development and related land use, zoning and environmental matters. Janet has over twenty years of experience in working on housing, land use planning and development projects and often works with clients to manage the permitting process. In addition to her legal practice, Janet is a principal of the consulting firm of Stockard Engler Brigham in Cambridge. As a lawyer and consultant, Janet has drafted local zoning regulations and advises clients on issues ranging from site specific development strategies, to broader policy issues related to land use regulations and trends in a number of different jurisdictions across the country.
Janet received her B.S. with distinction, from Purdue University, where she was elected to Phi Kappa Phi. She also has a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Public Administration from Purdue University. She received her J.D., with honors, and a certificate in environmental and energy law from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Janet is a frequent guest lecturer on housing and land use topics, including lecturing at MIT on the law and politics of land use.
